More Info »

Bio:  Murzik is a folk / neofolk band formed in Minneapolis, Minneapolis in 2003. The band started out by experimenting with mixing old eastern European folk and midwest Americana sounds together to form a sound which they coined as Dark Folk. Murzik claims its influences from more traditional artists such as Leonard Cohen,Vladimir Vysotsky and Édith Piaf which can be seen in Murziks romanticized soundscapes and dark poetic lyrics.  In 2008, Murzik was the primary feature of NPR’s radio show called All Things Considered. The interview was based around Murzik’s origins and their style . The radio show was played nationally and the link is still available through MPR’s web-site.  Earlier this year Murzik has released its fourth record A Cat Named Murzik, which features three unreleased crowd pleasers “Poison Tears”, “St. Andreas”, and Nabokov-themed “Lolita” as well as brand new recordings never heard before.

With a style developed by mixing blues, country, folk, R&B, gospel, bluegrass, and rockabilly and adding in a 1960′s influenced rock drummer, we aim to help bring rock music back to it’s roots. Expect to hear a mix of original songs and interpretations of classic songs by artists such as Charley Patton, Leadbelly, Son House, Woody Guthrie and The Carter Family. We believe in the importance of using musical versatility and creative singing to bring out the full potential of every song. We also believe that the show is more than just the music. We are regularly joined on the stage by our all-girl backing vocals group, The Lily Pads, along with other special guests. Come on out ready to sing, clap and dance along with us and celebrate the great tradition of American music.

Red Label (Saturday)

More Info »

Bio: Hailing from Minneapolis, MN, Red Label’s brand of rock n’ roll is as gentle and/or as pummeling as its namesake.  The band’s music, while rooted in Southern Rock, Blues, and R and B is also strongly influenced by jazz, psychedelia, Latin, and country to name a few.  The members of Red Label all have extensive professional music resumes, both through formal study and through touring the country. Each member brings a unique voice to the whole. Our sound is characterized by soaring lead guitar, roaring slide guitar, rumbling bass, driving drums, sweet harmonica, subtle keys, singing mandolin, and heartfelt vocals.  Lyrical themes include stories of love, loss, murder, redemption, outlaws, booze, and a sense that while the world is rough place to be, there is always light at the end of the tunnel, dim as that light may sometimes be.  Live, expect a loud, rocking good time. Red Label brings the thunder and the gentle rain after the storm.
